Hi friends!

I got the pleasure of serving domestically in Black Mountain NC this past week. Exactly one year ago on September 27th 2024, Hurricane Helene came and did lots of damage. My team worked on two different houses putting some finishing touches on one and then tearing down and putting insulation on in a crawl space.

After Black Mountain we returned to base to debrief the whole trip so far. It was very restful and fun. We had a lake day, played sardines, went to a local coffee shop, had fancy dinner, and late night waffle house!

Fun moment of the week: Each day this week my team had a dance party. One day we did footloose in the kitchen. Another, we sang “Praise” and did the church clap in the rain. There is so much joy in serving!

How has God been moving this week? This week was an amazing example of how good God is even in the midst of tragedy. We got to intercede on behalf of a local elementary school in their front yard. We talked with a few of the staff and they shared how faith has been part of their journey since the hurricane first hit. Even in such hard times, God’s goodness has victory over every evil. That community is so inspiring and I know God is moving in big ways there.

My team worked alongside Donte and Garrett, who took a week off to faithful serve. Donte’s commitment to the Word inspires me to continually be getting my daily bread. Garrett’s servant heart and willingness to work hard inspires me to always keep on going even when times get hard.

Prayer Requests: Pray for the Black Mountain community as they continue to recover. Pray for softened hearts in Colombia next week and all those we will encounter this week.

Song of the Week: Obsessed by Abbie Gambia and Aodhan King. The lyric “I thought I’d fallen in love, til it happened again” Yall God’s steadfast love is incredible! When you think you’ve had all the love God can give, HE GIVES MORE!

Love you,
Mieko
